During the three week challenge GHFM’s Nigel Pearce, pushed listeners to the Healthy Heart Makeover website to follow the progress of their favourite finalist through daily updates.
The website functioned as a virtual diary, putting a picture to each finalist and documenting their journey to a healthy heart from chocolate cake and atchaar for breakfast to snacking on raisins and a new found love for provitas. You could read all about it.
On the site, the public were able to vote for their favourite finalist and stood to win great prizes including iPods and Nike Footwear. People could also leave behind encouraging messages of support with all user activity (votes and messages) being sharable on Facebook.
In total an impressive 40.000 votes of support were cast on the site with 62% of the Western Cape becoming so hooked on our Healthy Heart Makeover challenge that they switched from radio to web just to follow the trials and triumphs of their favourite finalist.
